How the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) Helps with Denture Costs

For many Canadian seniors, individuals, and families, the cost of replacing or maintaining dentures has historically been a significant financial barrier to good health. Living with missing teeth or loose, broken dentures can make eating nutritious meals difficult, cause chronic gum discomfort, and affect overall well-being. Fortunately, the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is transforming access to essential oral healthcare by helping eligible Canadians receive quality dental and denture services with peace of mind.

The CDCP is a federal government initiative designed to help Canadian residents who do not have access to private or employer-sponsored dental insurance and meet specific household income guidelines. The plan helps cover a comprehensive range of essential dental and denture treatments, ensuring that financial constraints do not stand in the way of a healthy, functional smile.

To qualify for the CDCP, you must meet four straightforward eligibility requirements:

  • Canadian residency: You must be a Canadian resident for tax purposes.
  • Tax filing status: You must have filed your most recent annual Canadian income tax return.
  • Family income limit: Your adjusted family net income must be less than $90,000 per year.
  • No private coverage: You must not have access to dental insurance through an employer, pension, professional organization, or private family policy.

The CDCP provides robust coverage for the most common and important denture services you need for everyday comfort and nutrition:

  • Complete dentures: Standard full upper and lower dentures are covered to replace an entire arch of missing teeth, restoring your natural smile and facial support.
  • Partial dentures: Removable partial dentures (including durable cast metal frameworks, lightweight flexible designs, and acrylic options) are covered to replace missing teeth while protecting remaining natural teeth.
  • Denture relines and rebases: Professional hard and soft relines and complete base rebasing are covered to restore a tight, comfortable fit as your gums naturally change over time.
  • Emergency repairs and tooth additions: Same-day repairs for cracked bases, chipped teeth, and broken clasps, as well as adding new teeth to existing partials, are covered under the plan.
  • Denture adjustments: Routine comfort checks and bite adjustments are covered to keep your mouth free from sore spots and friction.

How much the government plan pays depends on your adjusted family net income bracket. For household incomes under $70,000, the plan covers 100% of the established CDCP fee schedule with zero patient co-payment. For family incomes between $70,000 and $89,999, the plan covers between 40% and 60% of the fee guide, leaving you with a modest, predictable co-payment. In British Columbia, you do not need a dentist referral to see a licensed denturist. You can contact our clinic directly with your Sun Life CDCP card, and our staff will handle all electronic pre-authorizations and claims directly with the government on your behalf, so you never have to worry about complicated paperwork.

Navigating health plans can sometimes feel confusing, but you do not have to figure it out alone. If you have questions about your CDCP coverage or want to find out what denture services you are eligible for, our friendly team at Ziaee Denture Clinic in Vancouver is always here to assist you.
